Embarcadero Center Retail

The Embarcadero Center is a dignified, concrete and glass composition. Our idea was to insert new transparent forms into the existing framework to allow maximum visibility into the colorful retail establishments. Like the flower kiosk, the Crabtree & Evelyn store is a transparent box seemingly suspended in midair.

The roof of the Crabtree & Evelyn store is an intersection of three conical surfaces that create a lyrical, undulating glass canopy. Each facet of the surface is a triangle of flat glass supported by a slim stainless steel mullion. The facets are in turn supported by a polished stainless steel arch spanning between two concrete beams, eliminating the need for columns. Glass wall panels span vertically from the concrete floor to the undulating roof, creating a completely transparent box that provides maximum exposure for its retail contents.
