Our Practice
Our Practice
The Office of Charles F. Bloszies, AIA, Ltd. has been engaged in the renovation of old buildings for over a quarter of a century. We are a group of highly skilled architects, structural engineers and design specialists who not only understand architecture theoretically but can also execute our designs in an innovative, yet practical manner.

Our practice is not a preservation practice per se, but our portfolio of work is made up mostly of new interventions in old buildings, some of which have been recognized historic structures. Our work includes rehabilitation, renovation, adaptive re-use, and seismic strengthening of existing structures. Often these interventions have included major horizontal and vertical additions. We are interested in how “new” meets “old”. In fact, when we design an entirely new building, we look to the architectural context to provide us with design cues. The scale of the projects we have completed varies widely as does the range of uses contained in the buildings we have designed. Most of our work is in San Francisco, California.

Principal of the firm, Charles Bloszies, is both an architect and a structural engineer. This blend of right and left brain thinking leads to clever but realistic solutions to complex design problems the firm has tackled. Our architects and technicians have graduated from the best design schools and are constantly striving to expand their knowledge in the world of design and construction. Some of us teach design at Bay Area colleges and universities as well. We employ the latest technology in the execution of our work and pride ourselves in our ability to communicate clearly.
